A watchful eye was ever present at the recent South African Open held at the Pearl Valley Golf Estates, Western Cape. A FlightScope tournament system was positioned on the 5th tee and tracked players’ drives during two practice rounds, supplying data including carry distance, launch angle and spin rates.

The FlightScope Tournament system consists of 3 FlightScope 3D Doppler Tracking Radar units that are synchronized in order to capture the entire ball trajectory. A video camera. located on a tripod, is synchronized with the FlightScope ball trajectory data on the Laptop P, to capture the swing with a defined pre-roll and post-roll video clip that is controlled automatically by the FlightScope software. Results are displayed in real time, where after the ball trajectory and video clip data are sent to the www.flightscopegolf.com database, they can be accessed afterwards in order to view numerous graphical and numerical representations of the FlightScope data recorded for the golfer.

The resource was a big hit with all players participating in the tournament, including stars such as Lee Westwood, Retief Goosen, Ernie Els and Henrik Stenson.
