X3 5GHz OS Upgrade

Making the system 5GHz capable
Requirements:
  1. 16Gb SD card
  2. RPi with its PSU
  3. HDMI cable and screen
  4. USB Keyboard
  5. USB Mouse
  6. X3 with its PSU for upgrade
  7. Mini USB cable
  8. Windows PC/Laptop
  9. Micro SD Card Reader (USB or built into windows laptop)
 
The first steps are done only once:
  1. With the Windows laptop download Pi OS from: http://downloads.flightscope.com/index.php?file=/RPI_Images/prod-os-writer-v2-full-resized.img
  2. With the Windows laptop download tools to backup and write parameters post upgrade from: http://downloads.flightscope.com/index.php?file=/RPI_Images/X3M2_Upgrade_v2.7z
  3. With the Windows laptop download Win32DiskImager to write Pi OS from: https://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/
  4. Install Win32DiskImager onto the windows laptop.
  5. Put 16Gb SD card into card reader and plug into windows laptop.
  6. Using Win32DiskImager write the Pi OS to the SD card.
  7. While that is in process, connect the USB Keyboard and mouse to the RPi and the HDMI cable with the screen.
  8. Once the OS is finished writing, slot it into the Pi and plug in the Pi PSU.
  9. Once the Pi is booted you are all set to upgrade the X3.
 
The following steps are done for each X3 that requires an upgrade:
  1. Connect to the X3’s wifi hotspot.
  2. Open the application called "X3 Backup - Restore Tool v1.0.2“.( http://downloads.flightscope.com/download.php?file=Software/X3BackupRestore/Flightscope_X3_Backup_Restore_Setup_v1.0.2.exe )
  3. Click the button “Find Devices”.
  4. Select your radar from the drop down box.
  5. Click the button “Connect”
  6. Once enabled, click the button “Backup”. To backup the parameter of the X3 to file.
  7. Wait for a Message box to appear which states that the “Backup is Complete”.
  8. Now disconnect from the radar
  9. Now you have to connect the mini part of the USB cable to the X3.
  10. Plug the usb into the Pi.
  11. Open a terminal.
  12. cd /home/pi/radar_os/x3-cm-setup
  13. sudo ./cm-setup
  14. Open a second terminal
  15. cd /home/pi/radar_os/usbboot
  16. sudo ./run-x3.sh
  17. Once it is done you can exit the second terminal and on the first terminal you can press enter and exit also - this will switch off the x3.
  18. Unplug the usb from the radar and switch it back on.
  19. The radar is now without any firmware thus the one LED will always flash green/blue, but the hotspot will start as FS X3-MASTER.

  21. Connect to the wifi hotspot of radar = X3-MASTER, login = X3-MASTER
  22. Open application called "X3 Backup - Restore Tool v0.1
  23. DO NOT open a connection to the radar at this point!!!
  24. Make sure you are connected to the wifi hotspot of your radar, then
  25. click on the button "Restore ARM Serial Config X3 / X3B", depending on which setup your X3 unit has.
  26. Enter in the Serial Number of the radar.
  27. Wait for a Message box to appear which states that the Upload is Complete.
  28. Wait for radar to reboot. A secondary acknowledgement that the Serial config process completed correctly is.
  29. the radar will stop beeping after approximately 6 beeps and the green light will become solid instead of flashing.
  30. Re-Connect to the X3 Wifi Hotspot. It will have a serial Number now!
  31. Click on the button “Upload Latest DSP Firmware”.
  32. Select the file “Update.zip”.
  33. Wait for a Message box to appear which states that the Upload is Complete.
  34. Wait for radar to reboot. A secondary acknowledgement that the Serial config process completed correctly is:
  35. the radar will stop beeping after approximately 6 beeps and the green light will become solid instead of flashing.
  36. Re-Connect to the radars Wifi Hotspot.
  37. Now click the button “Find Devices”
  38. Select your radar from the drop down box.
  39. Click the button “Connect”
  40. The Button “Restore” will be enabled now. Click this button.
  41. Wait for a Message box to appear which states that the “Restore is Complete”.
  42. Click the button “Disconnect” and close the application.
  43. Check out the system
